TWO casual relationships involving a Ross-shire man turned sour when jealousy crept in and caused him to verbally abuse the woman.

Fiscal depute Robert Weir told Sheriff Gary Aitken that James Sherry, now aged 21, had been involved with a woman in Perth in September 2022 and he went to her home on the night of the 14th.

Fiscal depute Robert Weir told Inverness Sheriff Court: "There was a disagreement stemming from his jealousy about his belief that she was in a relationship with another man.

"He threw a Hoover out of an open window and then left. But he returned in the early hours of the 15th and was banging on the doors and windows to get in.

"He then picked up a part of the Hoover and threw it at a window, breaking it," Mr Weir added.

The second short-term relationship was in February, 2023 and it lasted only a couple of months, Mr Weir told the court.

"He was in her company at a house in Academy Crescent, Dingwall when matters deteriorated relating to her relationship with a former partner. He called her a slut and a slag and threatened to publish on social media that she had a sexually transmitted disease.

"He grabbed her mobile phone and refused to return it , was shouting and swearing at her and he struck a kitchen wall, damaging the plasterboard," Mr Weir continued.

Sherry, who is currently serving a prison sentence, admitted two charges of threatening or abusive behaviour.

Defending, Rory Gowans said: "His earliest release date is April 4 next year and he wishes both matters to be dealt with today. At the time he was drinking too much but he has taken advantage of the various programmes available to him in prison."

Sheriff Aitken jailed Sherry for a year backdated to his date of remand on March 28 this year. He also placed 18 month long non-harassment orders to protect Sherry's victims.
