NC500 hotspot village Ullapool has seen a new sign pop-up for a rather exotic animal.

Spotted by a local today, the sign is on the A835 near Braes, just outside the village. Appearing beneath a Beware Children Crossing sign, the new road sign features the silhouette of a gorilla inside a red border.

Squirrels, deer, otters and sheep are locals to the area… but to date thee have been no known sightings of gorillas.

It is unclear what the sign is communicating – but a guess is that it means Gorilla Crossing. It is also unclear where the sign has come from, and how long it will stay to make its mark on the Wester Ross road.

Another simian made headlines earlier this year when it went on the run from the Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig.
