A statement approved by Alix’s family said: “Alness is mourning the loss of one of its own youngsters.

“The sudden death of Alix Mackay has absolutely devastated the community, particularly the local youngsters.

“Her family and close friends are struggling to come to terms with their loss. Despite having an ongoing medical condition you would never know as Alix didn’t let it define her and few would know that she was often unwell.

“Although Alix was only 21, she had started volunteering at an early age so play schemes and many primary schools benefitted from her smiley face and bubbly personality as she delivered sporting workshops. Alix was a very special person and was loved by all who knew her.

There has been an outpouring of love and heartfelt condolences following the death of Alix Mackay.

When she left school she joined Morrisons and continued volunteering as well as picking up some youth work hours. Latterly she had been working for Centred, an organisation for vulnerable adults and she was loved by colleagues and clients alike.

“She had a special caring nature and made sure that everyone she was talking to had her full attention and felt special.

“Alix lived life to the full and was the life and soul at parties and weekends. Rarely do you meet someone who touches the lives of so many but Alix was that soul who made the sun shine brighter for everyone she came in touch with. A huge loss to all that knew her. “

All friends are respectfully invited to the funeral service with a notice from funeral director Mairi Urquhart & Son stating that casual dress may be worn if wished.

Family flowers only are requested but mourners are invited to make a donation to Epilepsy Scotland if they wish.

The funeral director notes that parking space at the hall will be limited so car sharing is recommended. While parking will be available at Ardross Primary School, mourners are asked to be mindful not to block local accesses.

The funeral will be followed by a private family cremation.

Hundreds of tributes have been shared on social media, indicating the high regard in which Ms Mackay was held.

One summed up the feelings of many when she wrote: “The saddest news. Sending so much love to all that knew Alix, a beautiful soul who will be missed terribly by all that had the absolute pleasure to know her.”

Another added: “Alix, you are an absolute gem. You will be missed so much by many. You always made time to blether and have a laugh. It was an absolute pleasure to have known you.”
