Highland Council is set to close a popular Ross-shire footbridge for essential repair work

A POPULAR Ross-shire footbridge will be closed off for three weeks from Monday (August 1) while essential upgrading is carried out.

The Highland Council has appointed Pat Munro (Alness) Ltd to carry out the £32,526 upgrade on the Kiltearn footbridge in Evanton.

The local authority says the work is essential to secure the long term future of the bridge.

Highland Council says it is aware that public usage of the bridge is heavier during the summer months, but the timing of these works has been significantly restricted due to the international significance of the Cromarty Firth for both breeding and wintering birds.

For their own safety, members of the public are being asked to heed signs and the instructions of the contractor on site.
