Over 1000 homes and business premises are without power on the west coast today, after an unplanned outage was reported earlier this morning.

The fault on Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN)’s main network is understood to be affecting 56 post code areas in Assynt, including Lochinver and Achiltibuie.

The fault was first reported at 10.30am.

SSEN engineers were due to arrive on site shortly before midday and have provided an estimate of 7pm for the fault to be resolved.

An SSEN statement said: “We’re very sorry for the power cut and are aware of a fault on our main network affecting 1177 homes. This is affecting a large area and it’s likely several streets in the area are affected by the same outage.

“We have engineers on the way and they are due to arrive in the local area at 11.45am. Once they arrive, they will get straight to work on investigating the fault and attempt to restore power. At this stage, we’re aiming to have power restored by 7pm.”

More information can be found at SSEN’s power track website here.
