A ROSS-SHIRE MP has issued a fresh broadside over Brexit after a constituent revealed their heartache after 'running out of road'.

Ross, Skye and Lochaber MP Ian Blackford shared the email on social media to highlight the impact of the UK Government’s catastrophic Brexit plans on families and individuals who have chosen to make a life for themselves in this country.

The correspondence, from an EU national living in the Highlands, reveals utter despair at the policies and decisions of the Tory Government, which have forced the heartbroken constituent to leave for somewhere his family “are welcomed, rather than merely tolerated at best”.

The SNP’s Westminster leader said: “I am not in the habit of sharing correspondence from constituents, but in this case, with agreement, I am making the following email public while respecting my constituent’s anonymity.”

The constituent had contacted him to express concern about the impact of Brexit plans on the lives of those who have chosen to live in the UK. The constituent wrote: “I am and remain convinced that you will do everything in your power to stop this nonsense. For me, however, it is now too late, even as a dual citizen. I have made the very difficult – in fact, heart-breaking - decision to leave not Scotland nor the Highlands (quite the contrary, both will remain engraved in my heart) but a UK that is intoxicated with a rabid Tory party.

.

“I cannot and will not support, with my taxes, my spending power and my work, paid or unpaid, a government which is so hell-bent on destroying all the advantages won so hard since WWII.

“Brexit goes against every fibre in my body. Our rights and freedoms mean a lot to us and I strongly object to them being taken from us without our consent - there is nothing democratic about that, it’s abuse! So, if these malfunctioners take me out of the EU, I see no other course but to follow it to stay in.”

Reinforcing a belief that Scotland should become an independent nation in Europe, the constituent adds: “I’m sorry I cannot wait any longer. I will continue from the outside to fight against Brexit and for Scottish independence. It cannot come soon enough, but personally I have now run out of road. I feel the need to make a nest for my family elsewhere, some place where they are welcomed, rather than merely tolerated at best. I don’t see the current mess sorted in my lifetime - what remains of it - and I have no desire to spend my twilight years in abject poverty and misery to be taught a lesson I don’t need to learn.

“Ian, I bid you farewell therefore. Thank you for all the help and reassurance you have given and please don’t let my departure stop you from continuing the fight. You’re a terrific MP: Charlie Kennedy was a

really hard act to follow, but you managed.”

Ian Blackford said: “This is someone of European origin who is choosing - because of Brexit - to leave Ross, Skye and Lochaber. We can ill afford to lose people from the Highlands and this saddens me greatly. Scotland must become an independent country in Europe – a country that will always extend a friendly welcome to those who wish to come here and make a contribution to Scotland’s story.”
