Ross County complete signing of former Motherwell midfielder Dean Cornelius as ex-Harrogate Town man moves north to Dingwall

Ross County have confirmed the signing of midfielder Dean Cornelius on a two-year contract.

The 24-year-old returns to Scottish football after two years with Harrogate Town in England’s League Two, having come through the youth set up at Hibernian and making his senior debut with Motherwell.

He had made 62 appearances for the Steelmen, scoring twice, before moving south of the border when his contract expired in 2023.

Cornelius has played practically every week for Harrogate, making 85 appearances over his two campaigns with the club and scoring four goals.

In that time, he helped the club to a 13th-place finish and an 18-place finish in League Two.

However, it was confirmed in early May that he would be leaving Harrogate when his contract expired at the end of last season, and now after much speculation he has been announced as a Ross County player.

Cornelius becomes County’s sixth signing of the summer, following Declan Gallagher, Gary Mackay-Steven, Ross Docherty, Ben Crompton and Arron Lyall.

Last week, club chairman Roy MacGregor and chief executive Steven Ferguson revealed that they were targeting six new arrivals this summer, with that checklist now seemingly complete.

Manager Don Cowie commented: “We are delighted to have Dean at our club as he compliments our previous signings really well.

“Dean had a lot of interest in him and it’s a real coup for the football club to secure his services.

“He joins us at a great age with a lot of experience under his belt playing in Scotland and England and we look forward to working with him.”
