Motorists using the main road to and from Skye have been warned to expect disruption when major resurfacing works begin next week.

A 10mph convoy system and temporary traffic lights will be in place during the daytime while Bear Scotland roadworkers carry out improvements to the A87 near Loch Cluanie from Monday to Thursday, September 16 to 19.

The convoy will be in force from 7am to 7pm each day and, although the traffic management will be lifted outwith those hours, reduced 30mph speed limits will be in force owing to the temporary nature of the unfinished road surface.

Bear Scotland said the works are "essential" and will involved "resurfacing the road to make it more durable and resilient against inclement weather, as well as providing a safer road for road users".

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s north-west representative, said: “These essential resurfacing works will upgrade the existing road surface, greatly improving the quality and safety for road users.

“We thank motorists for their patience ahead of these road improvements.

“We encourage road users to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
