A motorist has been reported for "road traffic offences" after a three-vehicle crash on the A9 on Thursday.

The busy trunk road was shut in both directions for more than an hour following a crash at Achnagarron - between Alness and Invergordon, at around 3.15pm.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the crash, which the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said had involved a mobile crane, van and a car.

They added that at least one person was injured and received treatment at the scene from the Scottish Ambulance Service. It is understood they were later taken to hospital to be checked over.

The road had fully reopened by 4.54pm although there were delays in the area for a time afterwards as detoured traffic cleared nearby roads.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: ““Around 3.15pm on Thursday, 6 February, 2024, we were called to a report of a road crash involving three vehicles on the A9 near Invergordon.

“The road was closed while the vehicles were recovered and then reopened.

“One driver will be subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal for road traffic offences.”
