A “road traffic incident” has closed the Dornoch Bridge in both directions, Traffic Scotland was warning on Sunday night.

In an update first posted through its website at around 5.55pm and later by its social media channels, it said the A9 was closed in both directions and was advising motorists to find an alternative route.

A Traffic Scotland spokesperson said: “[The] Dornoch Bridge is currently closed in both directions due to a road traffic incident. Diversion details will be posted shortly.”

It subsequently posted an update advising drivers to divert via Bonar Bridge.

Dense fog was being reported in Easter Ross around the time of the incident, although it is not known if this was a factor in it.

Emergency services have been approached for further details.
