Bookworks urged to bag a bargain in Dingwall; Word on the Street festival includes Big Book Sale; Groam House Museum to benefit; Bargains from 50p
AN invitation to bag a bargain has been issued to bookworms heading for a Dingwall festival this week.
Hundreds of pre-owned books will be on sale at the Big Book Sale being held in the Legion Hall, Dingwall on Saturday.
Fiction; non-fiction; science fiction; guide books, history books, reference books, natural history, romance,
mystery, arts, crafts and gardening, as well as books for children, will be up for grabs.
The event, running frp, 10am to 12.30pm, has been organised to tie in with the ongoing Word on the Street Festival which started on Thursday and runs until Sunday.
It's being staged on behalf of Groam House Museum in Rosemarkie to benefit a fund set up to meet external decoration and repair costs at the centre of Pictish art and heritage.
Books can be snapped up for 50p and tea and coffee served with a selection of home-made cakes will be available for £3.
In addition to housing an important collection of carved Pictish stones Groam House also proudly displays the nationally recognised collection of the works of Scottish artist, George Bain - whose interest in Celtic art sprang from his early studies of the carved Pictish stones.
Sadly, the building which houses the museum is in a poor state of repair.
The building, which is listed, is the property of Highland Council. However cut cuts in council budgets have meant that repair
work on buildings has been cut back dramatically and it now falls to the museum itself to carry out the repairs.
The organisers are delighted to have the support of local authors who will signing and selling their own books: Marjery Tait with her new children’s book and Alex Walters with his new detective novel.
They have also paid tribute to the organisers of Word on the Streetfor including them in the festival.
