The man was caught driving at nearly 120mph.

Offshore worker Ryan Ross (27) was driving his Mercedes AMG on September 21 last year, Inverness Sheriff Court was told, when his foot hit the floor briefly.

Ross, of Broomtown, Balintore, admitted the speeding charge.

Sheriff Robert Frazer said: “It's quite simply unacceptable for anyone to be driving at that speed for any amount of time.”

Ross was fined £1000 and disqualified from driving or holding a licence for 10 months.

Court papers stated that Ross was found to be driving on the A9 Polmont to Scrabster road around Arpafeelie at 119mph, in breach of the 70mph speed limit on that section.
