A FITNESS craze that has swept the internet from the USA has arrived in Ross-shire, with classes set to start this week.

The Insanity Programme by Beachbody LLC originated as a multimillion selling home workout DVD and uses high intensity interval training to burn an average of 750 to 1,000 calories per session.

Promising to deliver visible results in 60 days, the programme-makers insists the exercises can be modified to suit all abilities and fitness levels, making it the ideal option for anyone who wants to get fitter.

One of the first of its kind to be delivered in the Highlands, the class is being led by qualified fitness instructor and mother of five, Sam Rollo (42) from Evanton, and Jenny Rankine (41), a prison officer and freelance fitness instructor from Alness.

Sam and Jenny have over 10 years’ experience as fitness instructors between them, with both regularly taking classes such as Body Pump, Spinning and Metafit across Ross-shire and Inverness.

The drive to take on a new challenge led both women to train as certified Insanity coaches earlier this month.

Speaking of the new class, Sam said: “Jenny and I are very excited about bringing insanity to the area as it is one of the most effective full body programmes available.

"As well as offering a tough but satisfying workout, participants will also have the chance to measure their fitness and set targets, receive nutritional advice and enter competitions.

“Insanity is the perfect way to get that beach body for the summer and to get fit and stay fit for a healthier future.”

The 50-minute class takes place at Alness Bowling club every Tuesday, 10-11am and 8.30-9.30pm, Wednesday, 8-9pm and Thursday, 10.30-11.30am and 7.30-8.30pm.

Participants must be 16 years and over.

The first block will run for six weeks, and should it prove popular, additional blocks may be arranged for Alness and other locations.
