ROSS County fans are being urged to sprout beards this winter to help raise money for local sick children.

The club's co-managers, who have got a head start on the facial fuzz front, will be backing the ARCHIE Foundation campaign and are calling on workplaces, sports teams and families to get involved.

The Beards for Bairns campaign, which sees men grow or style a beard from Christmas Day to Burn’s Night and get sponsors to help raise as much money as possible.

Women can also get in on the fun – not by growing a beard – but by nominating mates to take part.

The Staggies backed the campaign on a recent visit to the Highland Children’s Unit where the players and management team paid a visit to young patients and dropped off gifts.

Ahead of the Beards for Bairns, the County management duo of Stuart Kettlewell and Steven Ferguson nominated each other to take part.

Mr Kettlewell said: “As a community club we are delighted to support such great initiatives as Beards for Bairns. The ARCHIE Foundation provide vital support to children across the Highlands and for Ross County to be able to play its part in helping is massively important to us.

“We as managers, and our players, encourage as many people as possible to get involved in Beards for Bairns to help strengthen the support that can be offered to young people through the ARCHIE Foundation’s great work at the Children’s Unit at Raigmore Hospital.”

Local fundraising officer Dawn Cowie said: “We were delighted to welcome Ross County to the Highland Children’s Unit recently. Their visit made the patients’ day and the team were interested to hear about the work ARCHIE

does here in the Highlands. To have the support for Beards for Bairns is incredible and I hope to see a lot of their supporters

grow beards this winter.

“It’s so simple: grow or style a beard for one month from Christmas Day to January 25 and raise

money for sick children. You can sign up individually or as part of a team of workmates or friends by visiting

archie.org/beardsforbairns.

“All money raised will stay here in Highland to support local children and their families.”
