Opening of Muir of Ord’s Tarradale Auld Sweetie Shop saw queues out the door

THERE were queues out the door at the weekend when a new sweetie shop threw open its doors in a Ross-shire village.

Behind the Auld Tarradale Sweetie Shop in Muir of Ord is Billy Grant, also known locally as Billy Wonka. A chippy and diner are due to open in April at the back of the building, formerly Munro the butcher.

Grant Clark is manager of the complex and currently working in the sweet shop with Karen Stead working part-time and a full-time employee due to join. More jobs are expected to be added as the business develops.

The chippy and diner will include a noodle bar and will be either sit-in or take away. The diner plans offering old-fashioned sundaes made with Loch Ness Ice Cream.

A spokesperson said: “The opening of Auld Tarradale Sweet Shop was an excellent weekend for trading but mostly great for the village.

“We had queues down the road both Saturday and Sunday, it was a joy to see so many excited children and adults. The children were entertained in the queue by Peppa Pig and Mickey Mouse from Highland Party Pals.

“There was a good carnival atmosphere in the village and all patrons were happy to wait and in good humour.”
