Highland bridge light-up planned to flag Lyme disease awareness drive
A BLACK Isle author who has helped raise awareness of Lyme disease after living with the condition for 12 years following a late diagnosis has come up with another bright idea to help the cause.
Morven-May MacCallum has arranged for the Ness Bridge in Inverness to be lit green this Friday as part of an awareness-raising month.
Ms MacCallum, who wrote Finding Joy based on her experiences, has arranged a gathering on Friday at 8.30pm when lime green confetti will be thrown.
A board with the words ‘Lyme disease is...’ will be available for people to share what it means to them.
The bridge is expected to be lit up at 9pm.
Not content with that, she’s also planning to jump out of a plane to raise money for Lyme Disease UK later in the month.
The cause is close to her heart after she was left bed-bound for eight years after being diagnosed late.
She also speaks in schools and has helped at a number of awareness-raising events.
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that can be spread to humans by infected ticks. It's usually easier to treat if it's diagnosed early.
Many people with early symptoms of Lyme disease develop a circular red skin rash around a tick bite.
Symptoms including tiredness, aches and loss of energy can last for years in some people.
May is Lyme disease awareness month.
