Worshippers will be present at the three churches of the Black Isle charge of the Scottish Episcopal church for the institution of a new rector on Saturday.

Father Alexander (Alex) Lane OSB, originally from Wales, will be formally appointed as rector in a ceremony at St Andrew’s church in Fortrose from midday on Saturday February 1.

The Most Reverend Mark Strange, Bishop of Moray, Ross & Caithness – and Primus of The Scottish Episcopal Church – shall be presiding, joined by friends and family of the rector and members of the Diocesan clergy.

The institution follows the retirement of Rector Mel Langille after 40 years since his ordination.

Born and brought up in South Wales, Father Alexander Lane has spent most of his ministry in the Church of England, in Sussex, Yorkshire, and most recently in Twickenham, London.

He is also prior of the House of Initia Nova, a Benedictine Community with members in the United Kingdom, Australia, USA and whose Mother House is in Puerto Rico.

He enjoys cooking, history, especially social history and travel and is a big believer in the use of social media as a mission tool.

Rev Mark said: “I am delighted to welcome Father Alex to the Charge, and to the Diocese and to celebrate his institution as rector serving the congregations of St Regulus Cromarty, St Andrew Fortrose & St John the Evangelist, Arpafeelie.”

Father Alexander said “I am thrilled and humbled to be asked to join the communities of the Black Isle Charge and look forward to journeying with the people of the Black Isle as we continue to live out our faith.”

Alison Garraway, a longstanding member of the congregation who worships at St Andrew’s Fortrose, added: “It is a pleasure to welcome Father Alex to the Black Isle, and on behalf of the congregation I look forward to working with him in our community.”
