Black Isle landslide flood damage revealed by dramatic drone footage
DRAMATIC drone footage shows the extent of damage caused by flooding which forced the temporary closure of a Black Isle road.
The A832 was completely closed for a period yesterday between Avoch and Fortrose amidst a day of torrential rain which triggered incidents of flooding across the Highlands.
While police had earlier indicated the landslide-hit coastal road might be closed for several days, a later update confirmed that one lane had been opened with a traffic control.
Martin Rush of Inverness-based Monster Giveaways on Facebook shared drone some footage (above) which reveals an unstoppable flow of water running down from the hillside and covering a large section of the route, carrying debris with it.
He said: “I thought it was worth a wee capture today. Interesting to see it all.”
Police said: “One lane of the A832 Fortrose to Avoch in Black Isle will be re-opened under traffic control from 6.30pm on Tuesday, 31 December, 2024 following reports of a landslide made around 8.30am the same day.”
Incidents of flooding across the Highlands - including fast-flowing surface water around the busy Tore roundabout - have also reignited a debate about culvert and drain cleaning and the ability of the infrastructure to cope with flash floods.
Discussing the Black Isle incident, one on social media posted: “It’s done some serious damage to the road between Fortrose and Avoch.” Another wrote: “The hillside isn’t where they left it!”
