A ROSS-SHIRE teenager will shed her locks in memory of her much-loved granny in a bid to repay a debt of gratitude to a cancer care charity and boost the fortunes of another great cause.

Rachel Spence decided to "Brave the Shave" for Macmillan Cancer Support to thank the charity for the "incredible" work it does helping people like her grandmother, June Bevan Baker.

June, who died last year after a battle with cancer, was known on the Black Isle and beyond and was a very active member of the community.

Seventeen-year-old Rachel explained: "I decided to brave the shave in memory of my granny, June Bevan Baker, who died from lymphoma in early 2016.

"The support both she and the family received from Macmillan was amazing, and I hope that the money I raise will help them to continue their incredible

work and help other people going through similar situations.

"I will be donating my hair to Little Princess Trust so that it can be used to provide wigs for children going through cancer treatment."

Rachel, who is resident in Fortrose, studies at the St Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh and is also a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland.

On Saturday, March 25, she will be shaving her head at Toni and Guy in Inverness as part of the Brave the Shave campaign. There will also be two Macmillan nurses there for moral support.

Rachel has set herself a £1000 fundraising target and is already halfway there.

Anyone wanting to support Rachel can do so via her fundraising page at https://bravetheshave.org.uk/shavers/rachel-spence
