PUPILS and staff at a Ross-shire primary school have returned after the summer break today to discover broken windows and missing gate padlocks.

It’s the first day back at school for thousands of pupils across Ross-shire and the wider Highlands following the longest holiday period in the academic year.

It’s a landmark moment for some families with children going to school or nursery for the very first time today.

The experience has been soured somewhat at Strathpeffer Primary School with the discovery last night that two windows have been broken and the school gates left wide open with padlocks missing.

It’s understood the gates had been left fully secured.

Anyone with information to share has been asked to contact the school. Its email address is strathpeffer.primary@highland.gov.uk

The Ross-shire Journal meanwhile is inviting excited parents and carers whose children are going to school for the first time today to share moments of the landmark occasion with us.
