Stagecoach Highland warns all services at risk of delay or cancellation as wintry blast hits routes
A bus firm is warning that all services across the Highlands today (Friday) remain at risk of delay or short-term cancellation amid the wintry weather.
Stagecoach Highland blamed driver shortages for the non-running of six morning services to and from Balloch in Inverness this morning.
But the operator expects further issues later today with a yellow weather warning for snow and ice still covering all of mainland Scotland and most of the islands.
Stagecoach also announced the cancellation of 11 services to and from Craig Dunain through driver shortages.
A technical issue has caused a 45-minute delay for the 06:45 10B Aberdeen to Inverness Stagecoach service.
Icy road conditions mean Stagecoach’s service 27 buses are currently unable to service Dingwall Docharty.
And driver sickness was blamed for the cancellation of the 07:00 Craig Dunain to Woodside village, 07:59 Woodside village to Craig Dunain and 09:00 Craig Dunain to Queensgate services.
A Stagecoach Highland spokesman said: “Due to the Yellow weather warning in place for snow and ice services are liable for delays and short notice cancellations throughout the day. Safety of our drivers and passengers are paramount. For live information please refer to the Stagecoach app.”
The fleet of gritters has been active throughout the night and continue to operate on all of the Highlands major trunk roads.
ScotRail services were mostly operating on time, but the 04:54 service from Inverness to Edinburgh was cancelled for all stations to Aberdeen, setting off from the Granite City instead.
The rail operator blamed a shortage of train crew.
