Police searching for a missing Dingwall man have begun a search in the hills around Torridon after his car was found at a car park near Beinn Alligin yesterday.

Ian Ross (65) was reported missing to police on Tuesday after concerned family members were unable to contact him.

The keen hillwalker’s car was found near the mountain Beinn Alligin on Wednesday.

Officers and mountain rescue teams have begun searching that peak “and the nearby areas” in a bid to trace him.

And they have urged anyone who may have seen Mr Ross or his car - a grey Dacia Duster - since Sunday, September 8 to get in touch.

Sergeant Duncan Birse, of Dingwall Police Station, said: “Mr Ross was last spoken to by family on Sunday, September 8. He is in regular contact with his family and when they hadn’t heard from him for a week, they contacted police.

“He is a keen hill-walker, and due to the fact of where his car was found, we have experienced officers along with colleagues from local mountain mountain rescue teams searching Beinn Alligin and the nearby areas in an effort to trace him.

“We’d ask that anyone who may have seen Mr Ross since Sunday, 8 September, or his grey Dacia Duster car to get in touch.

“Information can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote ‘incident number 2381 of Tuesday, September 17’ when calling.”

Mr Ross is white, 5ft 9in tall, of slim build and has wavy grey hair. It is not known what he was wearing when he disappeared.
