Celebration set to mark Muir of Ord hall's £250k revamp
A CELEBRATION will mark the completion of refurbishment work at a village hall.
Muir of Ord Village Hall recently underwent a £250,000 revamp to improve the insulation, replace windows and doors and a better heating system.
More space for rentals and modernising of the toilets was also part of the work.
And to celebrate the 125-year-old building’s fresh lease of life, an event will be held in the hall today from 2pm to 5pm – and all are invited to the family-friendly event.
There will be ceilidh music and dancing with Feis Rois, stovies by Café Artysans, activities with MOO Food, homebakes and a raffle.
The event is also being held in conjunction with the Making Muir of Ord Stand Out project with Tesco Bags for Help.
The £250,000 cost of the refurbishment work was secured from several sources – Highland Council, SSE’s energy- efficiency fund and Fairburn wind farm fund, and the Highland Cross.
The work marks the latest chapter in a long history which dates back to 1893. In recent years the building has been run by the Muir of Ord Hall and Facilities Company, after the community stepped up to buy the hall for the nominal fee of £1 in May 2012 when Highland Council decided to divest itself of the site.
It was accepted at the time that if it was ever to cover its own costs, a refurbishment would be required. Plans were drawn up and approved in the middle of 2016.
