A HIGHLAND mental health charity, with branches in Invergordon and Inverness, has been named as the Best Wellbeing Service at a prestigious national awards ceremony.

Change Mental Health was named as the Best Wellbeing Service for its Highland Community Link Worker service at the Mental Health and Wellbeing Awards.

In April last year, the charity opened a new resource centre in Invergordon, after relocating from Alness after 25 years. Later that year, Change Mental Health announced they were planning a “huge” expansion of their Community Link Worker (CLW) service — allowing the charity to reach areas such as west Sutherland, Badenoch, Strathspey, Skye, Lochalsh and the small isles.

Coleen Kelly, director of services at Change Mental Health, said: “This award is a huge testament to the dedication of our Community Link Worker team, who work tirelessly to support people in the ways that work best for them.

“By listening, understanding and connecting individuals to the right support, we are helping people lead healthier and more fulfilling lives.

“Social prescribing isn’t just an ‘extra’. It represents a fundamental shift in how we approach wellbeing. We’re proud to see this service recognised on a national level and we remain committed to expanding its reach across Highland.”

The CLW service follows a social prescribing model, focusing to improve health outcomes for people experiencing stressors in their lives due to social problems that could lead to poor mental and physical health.

In 2023/24, the CLW service supported 851 people across the Highlands, with 1403 referrals, 2218 social prescriptions and 5006 appointments.

Change Mental Health was also a runner-up for the Inspirational Charitable Organisation Award and Outstanding Impact in Education Award.
