NC500 Chanonry Point beauty spot’s plea after reports of toilet waste and overflowing bins
THE community around a Black Isle NC500 beauty spot has issued a plea to visitors after reports of overspilling bins and toilet waste.
Chanonry Point, near Rosemarkie on the Black Isle, is a popular scenic point known for its views across the Moray Firth and regular dolphin activity.
However, the landmark’s popularity can also bring its own set of issues.
“As the sky fills with diving gannets and speeding guillemots, other not-so-pleasant reminders of the changing season have been found at Chanonry over the past few days,” said the community-run Chanonry Point Facebook page. “[We have found] bin overspill despite plenty of room in other available bins, abandoned bags of food waste and toilet waste. It is unprecedented to be repeatedly experiencing these issues this early in the year.
“Please put rubbish in bins. If they are full, take the rubbish away with you until it can be disposed of securely.”

Chanonry Point then went on to direct visitors to the nearest public toilets in Rosemarkie and Fortrose, which are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The landmark’s Facebook page continued: “Very soon Chanonry can expect up to, and beyond, 1000 visitors a day. The vast majority of people treat this special place with great respect, but even a minority of this figure not doing so has a significant cumulative impact.
“Let’s keep Chanonry special for all humans, pets and wildlife to enjoy safely. Thank you.”
