WATCH: Ross County clinch return to Scottish Premiership with romp to win title





MESSAGES of congratulations have poured in for Scottish football's newly promoted Ross-shire heroes.

Ross County FC blazed their way to the Scottish Championship title in front of 4805 fans with a stunning 4-0 victory over Queen of the South in Dingwall under the floodlights.

County, who went into the match sitting on a six-point lead with just two matches to play needed just a single point to clinch the title on the night.

A goal from Ross Stewart eased the nerves with two from Brian Graham and a peach from Josh Mullin sealing the title, with the trophy presented at the Global Energy Stadium just minutes after the final whistle.

Amongst the messages of congratulation was one from former captain, Andrew Davies, who tweeted: "So happy for my former club getting back into SPL. A great club. I loved my time there."

Local MP Ian Blackford tweeted: "Fantastic achievement by the Staggies.They have proven over the course of the season that they had the consistency and quality to top the league. Well done all involved."

Celtic Football Club was amongst the first of the Premiership's elite to pass on good wishes after the final whistle, welcoming Ross County FC back to the top flight. The Dingwall club had instigated a minute's applause as a mark of respect before the clash with Queen of the South to the late Celtic legend Billy McNeill, who died this week at the age of 79.

Club chairman Roy MacGregor hailed the role of the Ross County management and staff who combined to who combined to deliver promotion back to the Premiership.
