House-building proposals for Conon Bridge tabled with Highland Council

Two major house-building proposals for Conon Bridge will be considered by Highland Council planning officials.

Taken together, they would create 72 new homes in the growing village plus space for business and retail use.

Tulloch Homes wants to build 27 houses just south-west of Broompark, in what would be the latest and final phase of building at the Braes of Conon.

Developers have already built and sold 179 new homes, and five retail units. Permission to develop the last part of the site, between School Road and the A835, was previously refused by the council over flood risk concerns.

Modelling showed “some” flooding was likely at the site, but with probable climate-change factors included “significant and more widespread flooding” was likely.

Tulloch has now had a flood mitigation report produced on its behalf.

The application has a determination deadline of September 29 and will be considered under officials’ delegated powers.

In a separate application, Gairloch and Conon General Partnership wants to build 45 residential units and provide 1.3 hectares of land for commercial use at land just north of Riverford, Conon Bridge.

Also included in the application is associated infrastructure works, open space featuring woodland, seating and footpaths, as well as landscaping works.

The site proposed skirts just east of the main north railway line and south of existing residential areas.
