ROSS County were sent home licking their wounds after a 5-1 drubbing away to top-of-the-table Hamilton.

By the time Johnny Flynn saw red for a professional foul on Matthew Paterson on 42 minutes, County were already down two following goals from Mark McLaughlin and Ali Crawford.

It was about to get worse as James Chambers converted the resulting penalty to make it three at half-time.

If ten-man County were left with a mountain to climb after the break, it assumed Everest-like proportions when, on 57 minutes, Hamilton found the net for the fourth time, Paterson the man getting his name on the score sheet.

When Kurtis Byrne hit the target for County on 77 minutes, it could be little more than a consolation. But it just wasn’t going to be County’s day as Hamilton rubbed salt in their wounds by adding a fifth before the final whistle, Grant Anderson adding to the rout.

Elsewhere, Dundee were held 1-1 by Ayr; Falkirk overcame Patrick 2-1 and Morton beat Livingston 2-1. Queen of the South went down by 3 goals to one against Raith Rovers.

After the first couple of encounters of the Irn Bru Division 1 season, Hamilton are flying high at the top on a maximum 6 points ahead of Raith Rovers on a superior goal difference garnered today. County find themselves second bottom ahead of Patrick, who have yet to register a point.

The Dingwall side will be looking to erase memories of this one when they host Queen of the South next Saturday.
