Married couple and grandchild (2) confirmed as victims of tragic A9 accident at Slochd Summit in the Highlands as police renew appeal for witnesses
Police Scotland have confirmed the deaths of three people following a road traffic collision on the A9 this week.
The accident happened on Tuesday around 11.40am and involved a red Ford Fiesta and a black Mercedes C Class at the Slochd Summit near Carrbridge.
The male driver of the Fiesta, David McPherson (68) was pronounced dead at the scene.
His wife Elza McPherson (64) and their two-year old grandson were taken to hospital, where they both died a short time later.
The occupants of the black Mercedes, a man (67) and woman (65) were also injured and taken to hospital, and are now described by medical staff as being in a stable condition.
A white Mercedes Sprinter pick up vehicle was also involved in the collision and the male driver did not suffer any injuries.
The road was closed for nine hours while crash scene investigators conducted enquiries into the circumstances of the collision.
Sergeant Neil MacDonald, of the Road Policing Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased and the family have requested that their privacy is respected at this time.
"We are conducting extensive enquiries into the circumstances of this incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
"In particular, I would ask anyone with dash cam devices to check their footage as it could hold images which could prove to be significant in our enquiries."

The family of the deceased do not wish to make any comment, do not want to be approached by any media and ask that their privacy be respected.
