An ex-prisoner who was filmed attacking a fish and chip shop worker after being refused cheese sauce on his bag of fries demanded to be sentenced immediately at Inverness Sheriff Court rather than wait for a psychologist's assessment.

But 41-year-old Charles MacLennan of Mart Road, Dingwall wanted to be released instantly because, he told Sheriff Gary Aitken, that he had spent enough time on remand.

However only one of his requests was granted when Sheriff Aitken jailed MacLennan for six months backdated to March 3, which meant he would be behind bars for around another couple of months.

A woman enjoying an Inverness-shire music festival was shocked when her breasts were grabbed twice by a fellow audience member that she did not know.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that the victim retreated to another part of the Beauly Holiday Park to join her husband and friends but was followed, and 47-year-old Andrew MacLean who carried out the same sexual assault in front of her stunned and angry spouse.

A survivor of childhood sexual abuse in Inverness says he was shocked to see that his abuser “looked evil, he looked angry” in the courtroom after being sentenced.

It’s been three years since Shaun Matheson first reported the crimes of his former coach at Inverness-based Highland Wildcats American football club, Robbie Paulin, to the police. Yesterday (April 24), the case finally concluded at Inverness Sheriff Court, with Paulin being sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of sex offences against teenage boys between 2012 and 2014.

Shaun, who has waived his right to anonymity as a survivor of sexual abuse, was one of these victims.

“I knew Robbie from the age of 11 or 12,” Shaun previously explained. “Throughout my teenage years, he took advantage of his position for his own disgusting desires. Anyone who knew me, Robbie, the Wildcats or NutProductions knew just how close we were - despite him being 10 years older than me. The fact that it was wrong didn’t even cross my mind until I was an adult myself.”

An experienced Ross-shire lorry driver who performed a unsafe overtake on the A96 kept his driving licence when he appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court.

Stuart Revill, of Anderson Drive, Fortrose was approaching the Auldearn junction east of Nairn on April 26 last year when he pulled out to pass a car in the face of oncoming traffic.

A woman who went on a seven week long shoplifting spree in one shop has been banned from entering the store.

Alyce Robinson (26) of Gowanbrae Crescent, Rosemarkie, appeared before Sheriff Gary Aitken and admitted a total of 10 charges of theft from the Smyths toy store in Rose Street, Inverness between September 17 and November 6 last year.

A teenager who downloaded and shared "horrific images" of children including babies being sexually abused confessed to police that he was "addicted to pornography" and wanted help.

Calum Simpson, of Muirton Road, Tore on the Black Isle, had previously admitted possessing hundreds of videos and still images of children and babies being abused and sentence had been deferred for a background report.
