Death of ‘true gentleman’ of Dingwall Gaelic Choir sparks widespread tributes
TRIBUTES have flooded in for a “true gentleman” who touched the lives of many associated with an award-winning Ross-shire choir.
Uisdean Macrae, former Gaelic tutor of Dingwall Gaelic Choir, was described this week by one who knew him as “a choir legend”.
Dingwall Gaelic Choir posted: “It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Mr Uisdean Macrae.
“Uisdean served as Gaelic tutor from 2000-2013 and helped the choir achieve many successes during his tenure.
“The choir extends its heartfelt condolences to Murdina and his family.”
Tributes from many who knew him poured him after the sad news was shared. Sandy Thomson posted: “Very sorry to learn of Uisdean's passing, he was such a gentle man, and so patient with learners. A true Gaelic scholar, I learned so much from him both in choir and night classes. Thoughts with Murdina at this sad time.”
Fiona Johnston echoed those sentiments, adding: “So sorry to hear this. Many happy memories of Uisdean during student days in Aberdeen and later Fèis. Did so much for Gaelic!”
Catriona Rothach wrote: “Uisdean was my first Gaelic tutor and the patience he had with me was incredible.”
Anne Soutar added: “Sorry to hear the news of Uisdean’s passing. We have known Uisdean for many years, long before he moved to this part of the world. Uisdean was a great Gàidhlig scholar and a huge supporter of the Dingwall Gaelic Choir for many years.”
Chrisanne Macleod Robertson posted: “So sorry to be reading this - condolences to Murdina, family and friends. Another choir legend has passed.”
