Dedication, hard work and success marked at Avoch prizegiving
THE success of pupils across a broad range of disciplines and extra-curricular activities and the dedication of staff, parents and volunteers contributing to school life has been celebrated in Avoch.
The Black Isle primary’s annual prizegiving also saw P7 leavers wished well on their move up to secondary.
The P7 school orchestra hit the right note with an outstanding opening performance of the Star Wars theme.
Mrs Davidson and Mr and Mrs Macleman were thanked for the many years they have spent coaching and supporting the school’s football teams to great effect.
This session saw them win the MacGregor Shield with both teams winning through to the final of the Scottish Soccer 7s.
Four pupils – Finn Mantle, Heather McIver, Leona Carmichael and Finlay Rowlands – also received an award for completing the highly prestigious National Maths challenge.
In addition, Alasdair Lipp won an award from the Ross-shire Young Writers as did Leona Carmichael who was a National Finalist in the Inspire/Aspire Awards, and Holly Litster, Kaitlin Burns, Leona Carmichael, Victoria Ruxton and Amber Cumming were presented with certificates for their outstanding work as peer tutors.
Another highlight of the day was that of all pupils in P6 and P7 received the John Muir Conservation Award, after a year of very hard work.
A year of amazing achievements included success at a host of sporting events. The Ross-shire badminton trophy success saw Tina Kelly and Heather MacIver selected to play for Highland in the Scottish badminton finals. The cross-country teams were outstanding with both the boys and girls winning their respective Ross-shire competition, culminating in the boys winning the North of Scotland shield.
In orienteering, the U10 girls won the Scottish trophy and in athletics, the school took the group A trophy in the county sports.
Mrs Lorna Sim, the headteacher paid tribute to staff, parents and members of the community who have dedicated their time to coach and support pupils at events. She said: “Without this level of support, it would simply not be possible to offer such a variety of extra-curricular activities.”
