Police carried out a national computer check on a car officers were travelling behind and discovered the driver did not have a valid policy of insurance.
Andrzej Brezman of Cluny Road, Dingwall, was stopped in Station Road on April 20, last year and when police searched his vehicle, discovered a Stanley knife blade in the centre console.
The 49 year old did not have a reasonable excuse for having the blade and was charged with possession of the item as well as the road traffic offence.
He admitted both charges at Inverness Sheriff Court and was fined a total of £640. His driving licence was endorsed with six penalty points by Sheriff Gary Aitken.
