CUSTOMERS at a Dingwall community shop will get the chance on Saturday to meet the local artists who sell and display their work in the High Street store.

The Open Crafts Day at The Greenhouse will also give people the opportunity to watch crafters and artists produce their work during workshop sessions.

The all-day event, which runs between 10am and 5pm, celebrates the wide range of local handmade produce for sale in the shop.

It will enable shoppers to meet the artists, tasting sessions, demonstrations and talks throughout the day.

Shop manager Lynn Brydon explained that as well as the usual second hand goods The Greenhouse sells and displays work by local artists and the open day was set up to showcase their art.

The community shop, thought to be the largest social enterprise in Scotland, has expanded and developed its interest since moving to the High Street from Hill Street. It invests its profits into social, community and environmental projects in the Dingwall area.

The crafts open day is just one of number events being held in the Greenhouse throughout this month. Next Thursday (August 18) there will be a woolcraft event for knitting and craft groups, and the following day a massive two-day jumble sale will be staged across the street at the Dingwall Town Hall. All items will be 50p or less.

Lynn explained that as well as being a shop, The Greenhouse, has evolved into a haven for people.

“What we are finding with the Greenhouse is that it is a safe place for people to come, to meet other people, to talk, to feel safe and secure, where people can spend all day if they want to,” she said.

“It has become a little community itself, within a community,” she said.
