An antique shop in the centre of Dornoch has hit the market after its owners have taken the decision to retire.

Castle Close Antiques, situated on Castle Street next to Dornoch Cathedral and the town square, has been listed with ASG Commercial, who are now inviting offers in the region of £375,000 for the property and its trade contents.

The building’s current owners have been trading as antiques dealers for decades and say they have “immensely enjoyed” their time developing and running the business.

However, after over 40 years of self-employment and due to a desire to retire, they have taken the decision to put their premises and life’s work up for sale.

Presently trading as an antique shop, ASG Commercial say the listing presents is an opportunity to develop the couple’s trade further.

Positioned in an “exceptionally prominent” location with a high level of passing trade, the business currently operates all year round.

Trade is mainly driven through the sale of antique object d’art, books, silver and glass, china, paintings, furniture and jewellery.

Internally, the shop is arranged at ground level and offers flexible retail floor space, with a “most pleasing” sales area that is spacious and well-lit.

To the rear of the main public area is smaller space which is currently used for the display of jewellery, silver and similar items.

The shop’s stock, ASG notes, is also available to purchase – subject to an independent valuation.

Its owners “genuinely believe” that enthusiastic new proprietors could continue to develop and grow the business further, after having reduced their own hours in recent years due to family circumstances.

They say the opportunity to grow the business presents a “significant opportunity” for new owners.

The business itself, which has always traded profitably, also benefits from a large overseas market.

It is also being sold with a fully functioning web site, at castle-close-antiques.com.
