Easter Ross and Sutherland vets answer appeals from Ukraine animal charity
Veterinary practices in Easter Ross and Sutherland have responded to calls from charities seeking essential items for use in Ukrainian animal treatment centres.
Staff from Rogart Vets and Easter Ross Vets responded to appeals from The British Vet Professionals for Ukraine charity by assembling a range of useful drugs, consumables and equipment, both medical and veterinary, to donate to the cause.
The British Veterinary Professionals for Ukraine charity was founded in response to the war in Ukraine by mobilising colleagues across the UK to send supplies – including emergency critical care diagnostic and medical supplies, bandages, tourniquets, wound care and surgical implants – to help emergency services.
With normal supply chains disrupted or destroyed, veterinary surgeons within Ukraine are appealing for supplies of veterinary medicines to treat a range of animals including domestic pets, farm stock and zoo animals.
In a two day trip, Rogart vet Neil Mcrae drove a car load of items down to Oakham, Rutland in England.
He said: "The charity have already dispatched three large lorry loads of medical aid, which has been transported to the Ukraine border in Poland and then on to Ukraine.
"A lot of the donations are what you would call consumables, such as syringes, needles, and intravenous equipment, suitable interchangeably for humans or animals, and they are not species specific."
The charity is now seeking cash donations so that they can liaise directly with wholesalers to source further supplies.
