Employers urged to tackle workplace stress; Highland Council shares advice on National Stress Awareness Day
ONE of the biggest employers in the Highlands has advised anyone "overwhelmed" by stress to seek help.
Highland Council has acknowledged National Stress Awareness Day, which is being marked today.
The day is marked on the first Wednesday in November.
A social media posting shared by the local authority on its official Facebook site said: "We all know what it’s like to feel stressed - being under pressure is a normal part of life. But becoming overwhelmed by stress can lead to mental health problems or make existing problems worse.
National Stress Awareness Day is a great opportunity to take a moment to think about our wellbeing and find advice or support on managing stress. Need help now? Speak to your line manager or one of your organisation's mental health reps."
The day is backed by Mind, the charity for mental health.
It has called on employers to play their part addressing the issue. It said: "For us to maintain our wellbeing, noticing what’s making us stressed helps us learn how we can deal with it. This is particularly important in the workplace where stresses of workload and working relationships are common.
"We’re asking employers to start the conversation about stress in the workplace. By creating a Stress Awareness Space, staff can share their thoughts and feelings when they are feeling stressed
"It can make a huge difference sharing how you’re feeling with friends and colleagues. By sharing you could get some great advice and tips or find you can support other colleagues who need help.
"If you’re not in a workplace and want to share what you do when you’re feeling stressed you can let us know by tweeting us @Mindcharity."
