POLICE have cordoned off Shore Road in Invergordon following a bomb scare.

Residents from six houses are also being advised to stay indoors after a member of the public reported having found an old item of ordnance near the Donkey Bridge area.

Both ends of Shore Road have been closed by police and vehicles won’t be able to access the road at the High Street’s Shore Road junction or at Roskeen Bridge.

Police are advising motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area and to find alternative routes into Invergordon.

A police spokesman said: "Within the police cordon there are six houses and residents are being advised by police to remain indoors at the present time. However, it should be stressed there is no danger to anyone within these homes.

"The Donkey Bridge, as it is known locally, will also be off limits to pedestrians whilst police deal with the incident."

Police have contacted explosive ordnance disposal specialists who are heading to the area.
