A fire-ravaged garage site looks set to return to life as new industrial units after plans were submitted to Highland Council.

The former Fearn Drome Garage, located on Fearn Industrial Estate in Easter Ross, was destroyed in a large fire on August 17 last year.

The blaze sparked a large response from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, with multiple units called to attend after eyewtinesses described an "explosion" and shockwave at the industrial estate.

At the incident's peak, fire engines from Invergordon, Dornoch, Golspie and specialist units from elsewhere were all in attendance.

The blaze was successfully extinguished, but the building was left as a blackened shell and later demolished.

An application has now been submitted by Sangster Electrical Ltd to construct a replacement - a slightly larger building housing industrial units which would be located on the exact same spot as what was there previously.

In a supporting statement, the applicants' agents, Blueprint Architecture, said: "The previous building was destroyed in a fire and our client is now proposing to rebuild on the site."

They continued: "We are proposing to build a new industrial building to replace the former Fearn Drume Garage. The area of the former garage was 240 sq m and we are proposing a new building with an area of 263 sq m that will be in the same location as the previous building.

"The walls of the building will have a smooth render finish."

Under the proposals, the new building would consist of three industrial units, each with their own doorway and large shutter entrance, as well as accessible toilet facilities.

Externally, each unit would also have a parking area with soakaway below.
