GROW FOR IT!: Scene set for triumphant return of Black Isle Horticultural Society Summer Show at Gordon Memorial Hall in Rosemarkie on Saturday
It's blooming great to be back!
That's the feeling amongst Black Isle Horticultural Society (BIHS) stalwarts as the group's summer show makes a return tomorrow (Saturday) after two years hampered by the coronavirus crisis.
While the BIHS tackled the challenges of the pandemic head on with some imaginative virtual competitions and online events, regulars will be delighted to get back to an in-person show.
A Covid-safe show was staged last year at the Black Isle showground.
The event returns to its usual venue – the Gordon Memorial Hall in Rosemarkie – with a full schedule.
One of the eagerly anticipated new competitions is for a Tub of Tatties, which will be judged in public in the afternoon.
Some other changes have been made to the show to reflect the increased importance of biodiversity, sustainability, and seasonality to gardeners.
There are sections for flowers, fruit, vegetables, food, preserves, crafts, photography and botanical illustration, as well as young people’s and novice sections.
Also promised are the fabulous cream teas that have become a feature of the show over the last few years.
Graham Sullivan, secretary of the BIHS, said: “We’re delighted to be back in Rosemarkie with a full show, and we’ve got some new classes and competitions. As well as folk coming along to see the show, we’re keen to encourage people who haven’t exhibited before to enter, and we’re happy to help them when setting up their exhibits at the hall or if they get in touch.”
The show opens to the public at 2pm on Saturday at the Gordon Memorial Hall, Rosemarkie.
