A forester racially abused a police officer after stealing food and alcohol from a Kyle supermarket.

Adrian McCabe (54), originally from Cumbria, but who has a static caravan on the Isle of Skye, appeared from custody at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted both offences as well as a breach of his bail.

On February 27,McCabe had been arrested for shoplifting and one of the officers was a German national, the court was told.

After appearing in court on these charges, McCabe was released on bail but banned from entering the Highlands unless for court purposes.

However Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald heard that McCabe "took a chance" and was in Inverness on April 14 on his way to Moray where he hoped to get work.

He was re-arrested and remanded in custody.

Defence solicitor Rory Gowans said: "He works hard and he plays hard. He is a Jekyll and Hyde character with a drink in."

McCabe was fined a total of £520.
