A FORMER Ross County player’s connection to the Dingwall club runs deep and has now extended to a fouth generation of his family.

Charlie MacRae, soon to turn 85, enjoyed last weekend’s home victory over Kilmarnock all the more in the company of daughter Elspeth, granddaughter Kelsa, her partner Liam and granddaughter, Harper, who is two-and-a-half.

Charlie, well known in his native Plockton but now living in Inverness, played for the club in 1964 and has never looked back in his affection for the Staggies.

For many years he was an agent for its fundraising 50/50 raffle in Plockton.

Charlie likes to get along to home games with either his daughter or granddaughter. He went one better last weekend with little Harper making her debut - and loving every minute.

He said: “It was a beautiful day.”

And in an upbeat assessment of the team’s rollercoaster season, he said: “They are going to stay up. They are a good team. The goalie was very good.”

Elspeth said it had been a great day out together with pre-match entertainment in the Staggies Bar.

Charlie’s late son Stanley was a much-loved lifeboat crew member at RNLI Kessock.

His funeral at the Kessock Lifeboat Station last March drew a huge crowd, with people flocking to the seafront to pay their respects, and RNLI vessels and colleagues providing an honour guard.

A memorial cairn was erected in his honour. Stan joined the RNLI in 1997 and was an integral part of the Kessock lifeboat community. Stan’s long service covered many roles and he was personally involved in the rescues of more than 200 people at sea, including 20 recorded lives saved.
