A COMMUNITY where the generation gap has been joyfully overcome thanks to a long-standing initiative that brings young and older folk together on a regular basis has celebrated the festive season in style.

Black Isle Cares, a charity that provides support services for older adults and vulnerable people, has built on its connections with the peninsula’s secondary school, Fortrose Academy.

The celebration involved nearly 45 participants, including Fortrose Academy pupils, members of the local community and Eilean Dubh Care Home residents and Black Isle Cares staff, volunteers, trustees and clients.

Fortrose pupils were on hand to serve and share a lunch of soup, savouries and cake. The intergenerational event focused on bringing together a wide range of generations to celebrate Christmas and the students and older folk had a great time sharing lunch and singing carols.

Elaine Fetherston, BIC Befriending coordinator, said: “We also had the very youngest generation represented by Fortrose Early Years Nursery (CALA) who did some lovely songs to entertain everyone then met Santa!”
