The popular Run the Runway event is returning to Inverness Airport to raise funds for cancer support charity, Maggie’s Highlands.

The event will take place on Saturday August 23 and gives people the opportunity to take part in a 5k walk or run on the airport’s main runway at midnight, guided only by the runway lighting.

It was last held two years ago.

The fun starts in the departure lounge from around 9pm with a DJ and party games before supporters are led out to the runway for a warm-up.

Fancy dress is encouraged, and each participant will receive a free Maggie’s T-shirt and a Maggie’s Run the Runway medal.

Tracey Gill, centre fundraiser at Maggie’s Highlands, said they were delighted to have been able to work with the team at Inverness Airport to bring back Run the Runway as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations.

“It’s such a fun and unique event to be a part of and has been in popular demand with our supporters since the last event in 2023,” she said.

Since its inception, the Maggie’s Run the Runway event has raised more than £260,000 for Maggie’s Highlands which is located in the grounds of Raigmore Hospital.

The centre is designed to provide a warm and welcoming space with professional staff on hand to offer the support people need to find their way through cancer.

Support is free with no appointments, no waiting lists and no limits.

Graeme Bell, Inverness Airport general manager, said the airport was thrilled to welcome back Run the Runway especially in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Maggie’s Highlands.

“This unique event has always been a highlight of the year, bringing the community together in support of an incredible cause,” he said.

“We look forward to seeing participants take to the runway once again for a memorable night under the lights.”
