Gairloch kids reach high to land £3000 boost for Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team
THE merits of a mountain rescue team offering a lifeline volunteer service to a huge swathe of Ross-shire helped pupils at a secondary school land a welcome £3000 boost for their efforts.
The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) run in schools encourages pupils to research what local groups and charities do and then make the case for funding at a presentation.
Teams from Gairloch High School made presentations on behalf of Toybox Children's Centre, the Great Wilderness Challenge and Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team.
They had been working with the charities over the last couple of months, learning more about them and what they do in the community.
Corey MacLennan, Anna MacLennan, Kirsty MacDonald, Katie Rae, Aiden McCall and Luke Elder won the day and presented a cheque for £3000 to Andy Vickerstaff from Dundonnell Mountain Rescue.
The money will be used to purchase wet weather gear for their volunteers.
