Gairloch ‘local lad’ chosen as new high school headteacher
A Gairloch “local lad” has been appointed as the new permanent headteacher of his former high school.
Gairloch High School was “delighted” to announce that former pupil, Stuart Caddell, has been chosen as the new leader of the Wester Ross school after an “intense interview process”.
Announcing the new appointment, Gairloch High said: “Stuart has come a long way since his S1 days, but he will be able to skilfully and thoughtfully take on the responsibility of leading our young people, staff and wider school community.”
Stuart has already been serving the school for the past year as the acting headteacher.

In an email to parents and carers of pupils at the school, Stuart Caddell said: “It is a privilege to be appointed to this post and a responsibility that I do not take lightly. I am looking forward to continuing to work alongside you, our staff and partners/communities to ensure that the education offered in Gairloch High School enables pupils to move on to their choice of post-school destination with ease.
“I would like to thank my predecessor, Wim Chalmet, for all of his work during his time in Gairloch High School and wish him the best in his new post.
“I am a ‘local lad’, a committed educationalist and I feel extremely honoured to be in such a position of trust and responsibility. I look forward to continuing to support the development and wellbeing of your children and young people.”
The new headteacher went on to note that a job advert for the depute headteacher role will go out in due course.
