Google Maps unveils virtual Loch Ness Monster
AFTER decades of searching, the Loch Ness Monster has popped up on Google Maps.
This new sighting is something of an Easter treat for tech fans. The pinman icon on Google Maps has changed to Nessie.
If that's all a bit confusing, let's explain.
Google Maps can be viewed in a number of ways, including satellite and street view.
When the user clicks onto street view they can pick up pinman, an icon that can be dragged over any area of the world, and photographs from around the area become visible.
When you choose the pinman icon over Loch Ness, a Nessie character becomes available and it can be dragged around the area.
Google is known for quietly adding special features.
There are other secret icons to be found all over the world. There is one at Buckingham Palace, for example, where the Queen replaces pinman.
