A SCUNNERED Black Isle landscape gardener has put up a £500 reward for the safe return of vital tools of his trade stolen from his vehicle.

James Bell reckons £2,000 worth of goods were stolen overnight from his Jeep — which, ironically enough, was parked not far from Dingwall Police Station.

Mr Bell believes CCTV footage may hold the key to the theft and plans pressing both Northern Constabulary and local businesses to check images recorded during the period in question.

Despite having worked the length and breadth of the country during 15 years in the trade, the theft from the vehicle, which had been parked on Millcraig Road, was the first he has ever sustained.

He told the Journal: “I’ve carried stuff on that vehicle for all that time and never had a problem. I’m a self-employed man and have worked hard to be able to buy that machinery. I’m gutted about this to be honest.”

A petrol-powered Stihl long-reach fixed hedge trimmer — which is around 2.5 metres in length — was tied on to the top of the vehicle. Also taken was a pole pruner of the same brand which can be extended to four metres. “They are so long they can’t fit inside the Jeep,” he explained. These are vital tools for me and I’ve already had to postpone some work.”

The theft took place a week past Tuesday at some time between 1.30am and 5.30am. Mr Bell, who normally stays in Culbokie, where he has a yard, had been staying at his sister’s home pending finishing a job in the area.

He appealed for anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers, wthe independent charity which takes anonymous tip-offs on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
