VOLUNTEERS cleared almost half a tonne of plastic waste at a single beauty spot in Wester Ross, it has been revealed.
Twenty-eight people helped to clear 450kg of plastic from Red Point beach south of Gairloch recently.
Hostelling Scotland, a local farmer and a member of Living Seas Scotland also helped support the clean-up efforts, which were organised by High Life Highland’s countryside rangers service.
The clean-up follows heightened awareness of the impact of single-use plastics on the oceans after the issue was highlighted by the BBC’s Blue Planet II.
