THE installation of a new biomass boiler plant turned heads when it was craned into place in Tain.

And social housing provider Cairn reckons eyes will continue to pop as energy bill savings start to kick in for tenants as a result.

Cairn Housing Association tenants at Scotsburn Court in Tain will benefit from the new biomass containerised boiler plant, which was constructed in Inverness and contains fuel storage, tanks, heat exchangers and a large boiler.

Cairn invested over £200,000 in the biomass plant which it is claimed will generate up to 40 per cent savings on tenants’ service charges. Biomass is a sustainable fuel source which is greener and more efficient than traditional heating systems.

The new system will offer significant savings on maintenance costs and generates income through the UK Government’s Renewable Heating Incentive which was set up to encourage the use of renewable energy through the use of financial incentives.

Cairn’s director of finance and investment Derek Adam said: “We are delighted to offer our tenants a cheaper and greener source of heating through the new biomass boiler plant.

"In addition to offering huge savings to tenants we are proud to support the emerging renewable energy industry in the region with our investment in biomass technology. Renewable energy is a good deal for tenants, a good deal for Cairn and a good deal for the local economy.”
